Next week, I am joining my I have joined my friends and colleagues, Rey JuncoTJ LoganLiz Gross, Greg Heiberger, and Dr. Jeanna Mastrodicasa at the University of Florida to participate in “Thinking Social.”  Our time together will be spent mostly assisting Rey and TJ conduct a research study with the UF Residence Life staff.   I am very excited to be part of this research and writing team, as well as officially hand in my doctoral application to the University of Florida’s Educational Technology department :-)

On top of all of this, the group decided that we should do a live streamed event where we can have an open conversation about all the things we are doing together and talk social media, higher education, student affairs, and much more.  This “Live Video Interview” type of broadcast promises to be an EDUtaining conversation, so please save the following date and time:

A Live Video Conversation with the “Thinking Social” Team at the University of Florida:

Saturday, August 13th at 4:00pm EST on UStream.tv

What questions do you have for this dynamic group of educators? What topics would you like the group to cover during their time together and on the live conversation?

Hi everyone! I’d like to ask this:
Do you feel that by students engaging with social media tools during college/university this can better prepare them for their future working careers and if so, what and why would be your main recommendations.

Do you notice a pervasive divide between college students of privilege with unlimited access to the newest technology and resources (from K-12) and first gen and/or low-income students?

How can we bring these students “up to speed” once they arrive on campus? :)
